How Much Bacteriostatic Water to Add to a Peptide Vial

There is no single correct amount of bacteriostatic water to add to a peptide vial. The total milligrams of peptide in the vial never change when you reconstitute it — adding water only spreads that same amount over a larger liquid volume. More water gives you a thinner, easier-to-measure solution per dose, but each injection becomes a slightly larger volume. People commonly choose 1, 2, or 3 mL, and the "best" choice is a tradeoff. Why there is no single right answer

Reconstituting a vial does not add or remove any peptide. A vial holds a fixed amount of dry powder, measured in milligrams (mg). The water you add simply dissolves it. So the question is not how much peptide do I get — that is set by the vial — but rather how concentrated do I want the liquid to be.

That is the whole tradeoff. The amount of water is a measurement-and-comfort decision, not a way to change the strength of what is in the vial.

The 1 mL, 2 mL, 3 mL tradeoff

Many people land on 1, 2, or 3 mL of bacteriostatic water because those round numbers keep the math simple. Here is how the choice plays out in general terms. These are neutral illustrations of the tradeoff, not recommendations.

Syringe capacity also matters: an insulin syringe typically holds up to 1 mL (100 units), so your per-dose volume needs to fit within that. Confirm your own situation with your pharmacist.

Now change only the water. Add 1 mL instead and the same 5 mg becomes 5 mg per mL — twice as concentrated, so each unit on the syringe carries twice the peptide.
